BassCoast #7 – Finally we’re back in LA!

BassCoast #7 By Rossella Blinded

ENG//
Finally we’re back in LA. And surprises couldn’t be missing in this episode either: an interview to Riot Ten and to Jaykode, both recorded before their djsets at Control LA at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles on April 22th and on April 29th.

I really missed Control LA at Avalon when i was in Italy, the lineup was huge as usual, both for the night where Jaykode who shared the stage with Milo & Otis and UZ and for the event with Riot Ten that played before TWRK and OG MACO!

Words are always superficial to describe these events, so you can check some videos on my instagram @rossellablinded. It’s always a great pleasure to join Control LA nights, they are always super-well organized, the staff are very friendly yet extremely professional, the stage is awesome with the fantastic visuals and the shows of Riot Ten and JayKode have been super energetic! The audience went crazy with every track the djs dropped. It was a roller coaster!

We talked with them in their interviews about their releases, their passion for music and for djing, dedication to Bass music and what inspires most them.

Enjoy the Episode:

Finalmente siamo tornati a Los Angeles.

BassCoast #6 By Rossella Blinded

ENG//
This was the first episode of the Bass Coast season which wasn’t broadcast from Los Angeles but from Milan, however no episode has ever been richer: an interview with Borgore, his exclusive Guest Mix, an interview with Stereoliez and the premiere of their new track.

I interviewed Borgore during his last Italian show in Legnano, near Milan, organized by Oh My Club! Coming back from Los Angeles I noticed how this organization hosts each month the most important international artists, one of the few Italian realities that can afford to organize events like these.

Indeed everything is very different from the LA clubbing, first of all in terms of cost and public. In Los Angeles evenings like these are addressed to an older audience, as each event is 19+ or 21+, this for the compliance of various laws against alcohol consumption by people younger than 21. But not only that. The events have much higher costs, in Italy a ticket is around 15-18 euros, in the US around 25-40 $ and can go up to 50 $. This also applies to the festivals that cost no less than 90-150 $ per day.

Borgore’s show did not disappoint anyone, as always, he is just one of the most heterogeneous artists, ranging from dubstep to hip-hop, to EDM and trap.
During our interview we talked about his beginnings, new sounds and influences, passion and dedication to music and the huge return of dubstep.
Not only did he give us his genuine opinion about many music aspects, but also some essential advice on how to make your dreams come true…the same piece of advice he would give his own son!

You can also find below the tracklist of his guest mix with tons of new tracks and Buygore previews.

I also had the pleasure of interviewing Stereoliez, an Italian duo with whom I played for the first time back in 2012.  I was really eager to interview them on Bass Coast to speak with them about their career, starting from local djs in northern Italy to reaching an international position, entering the Buygore family, after having toured Europe and America. Exactly yesterday Jack U, we’re talking about Skrillex and Diplo as you may knpw, played at Lollapalooza their bootleg remix of Afterhours by Troyboy made with Retrohandz.
I also played exclusively for Bass Coast their new single DNGR feat. G. Manors that you can find for free download at this link:

ITA//

#BassCoast 5 is Insomniac

Bass Coast #5 By Rossella Blinded

ENG/

Surprises couldn’t be missing in this episode either: an interview with Flux Pavilion, a name that does not need introductions, and a Bishu guest mix.

I met Flux Pavilion during his show at the Insomniac Countdown on NYE in Los Angeles. Insomniac, one of the biggest organizations of EDM / Bass events in the US,  organizer of EDC and Nocturnal Wonderland too, did not disappoint this time either! The Countdown, with an audience that exceeded 10,000 participants, three stages, more than 30 artists, was State-A unique show and unparalleled.

Among my favorites sets were those of Yellow Claw, Alison Wonderland , Dj Snake , Delta Heavy, Megalodon B2B Truth and obviously Flux Pavilion himself.

You can check some videos on my instagram @rossellablinded

In this Episode, as i anticipated, we also hosted an exclusive guest mix by Bishu, a young producer from Cove, US that recently released for Mad Decent and Unborn, Tom Size’s label. You can read the interview with him below.

To finish off the episode, I made a mix with some of the latest releases from the American Bass world, including the preview of the new NGTMRE’s EP! Find the podcast and the tracklist below!

BISHU INTERVIEW:

1. You are one of the youngest producers that have released for Mad Decent, how did you start producing and how did the collaboration with this big label start?

Hey ! I began producing 4-5 years ago after hearing Deadmau5’s/Skrillex’s stuff. I thought it was super dope how Skrillex was making these insane songs just on his laptop in hotel rooms whilst travelling around the world. Blew my mind and I had to give it producing a try ! The colaboration with MD happened extremely organically… I released a few songs with UNBORN and like a few months later their Mad Decent A&R emailed me asking if I had any unreleased music. Around 6 months later I signed a contract with them.

2. How did the collaboration with Unborn Records, Tom Size’s label, start?

When I first started producing and releasing trappy-type-stuff Tomsize was one of the first to take notice and support me. He commented on one of my songs and like a few weeks later he started UNBORN (which blew up super quick!). I liked the look of the label so I emailed a demo and they were down to release it. I distinctly remember that I was super hungover the day they emailed me. Was cool to wake up to.

3. Lol i can imagine that! Can you reveal us your future collaborations?

A few colaborations are up in the air at the moment, nothing super solid. So I guess I don’t really have anything to reveal (yet!) haha.

4. That’s ok! ;) Do you always work in a professional recording studio or do you also produce at home or in the hotel rooms with a laptop and headphones?

Definitely not working in a professional studio. I use my macbook and studio monitors to produce. At night I typically move to my bed and use headphones- I like checking my songs on both headphones and monitors !

5.  Do you also dj?

I have dj’d a few house parties, but nothing major. Definitely going to be djing for real soon.

6. What are the main things you’d say you’ve learned being in the game over the years?

Main things I’ve learned… hmm. I think it would be the fact that there are 2 sides to this whole music thing. There’s the art and creative side, and then there is the business/branding/connections side. Each are critical to success in my opinion. Getting a (competent) manager really helped me understand a lot of the business stuff. Not sure if this has much to do with ‘the game’ really, but it’s probably one of the main things I’ve learned haha

7. What’s the latest trend in Bass music that you’ve noticed taking shape?

Latest trend in bass music would absolutely be bass house/hard house stuff- Wiwek… Killing it.

8. What is your advice / your tips for young dj/producers that want to start a career in the Bass music scene?

I’ve just barelyyy found my footing in the scene (carreer-wise), but I think some things are critical to getting key people interested in what you’re doing. Number one would be to have something that is slightly different, but still appealing. It’s like the ultimate ratio of being good- different appealing. The more different and more appealing your stuff is the more people will be interested. This is super basic, borderline cliche stuff though ahah

9. What are your future projects? And.. Are you going to play in Europe? We can’t wait to welcome you!

Future projects include some collaborations, more releases (obviously), and getting the dj/live side of things solid. I’d be way down to play in Europe ! Hopefully soon haha.

It’s Bass Coast #4 ! #livefromLA

Bass Coast #4 (Season II) by Rossella Blinded

ENG/

December didn’t only bring about Christmas…it brought some special interviews too!

First up is LUMBERJVCK, recorded just before his breathtaking show at Avalon Hollywood at Control LA (i told you about this amazing venue a lot, so you should know what it is by now ;) )

This night was #lit, totally different from the rest, 100% dubstep. In Italy a solely-dubstep-night would be now considered something out-of-fashion, whereas here in LA it is always fresh, and has the power to keep surprising and connecting people.
We talked about his future projects, his new releases (one even with 12th Planet!) and about how he started his career as a dj and producer!

I made a mix with LUMBERJVCK‘s latest tracks including “Lost in The Ticket” which i have presented to you in the first Bass Coast episode of this season as one of the best dubstep tracks of 2015. You can find the track list and the podcast below and you can also watch a video of the show on my instagram profile @rossellablinded.

And this is not all. I’ve had the fortune to see one of the best visual shows ever, i’m speaking about Figure‘s show, for the promotional tour of his last album “Gravity”, go see a little video I posted on my Twitter profile @RossellaBlidned

The second interview is with Christina Boemio e Gali Firstenberg, two of the members of the Nap Girls collective, recorded at the Christmas Charity Party “Hella Lit Xmas” organized by Buygore and by the collective itself.
We had a chat about many topics, and they told me how Nap Girls is involved in organizing electronic and bass music events, charity events, promoting gender equality and much much more…

Hella Lit Xmas was lit particularly for 2 reasons: an unexpected (and obviously heart-stopping) b2b between Borgore, Skrillex & 12th Planet,  and most importantly because thanks to this sold-out event, organizers collected more than 650 toys and more than 1200 $ in cash to be donated to the Los Angeles Children Hospital. You can also watch a video of the show on my instagram profile @rossellablinded.

And here you can find the interview with Vice City that has even prepared a Guest Mix for us. Vice City is a duo from United States that only over last year released two eps for Buygore and one remix of the track Aftershot by Boombox Cartel and of NGHTMRE for the Mad Decent contest they won!

2015 has been a huge year for you. Is there something that striked you or surprized you, something unexpected?

Yes it’s been an interesting year, the thing that striked us is that we were lucky enough to win a contest for Mad Decent and get to play at Snowglobe Festival.

I’ve started listening to your music last year but two months ago I have been striked by Addiction, one of the song of Lights, your last ep released for Buygore.

How did you start to collaborate and release for Borgore’s label?

We started releasing my music there after many years of demo submitting, they finally gave me a shot and I’m grateful for that! We have lots of unrleased tracks coming out there in 2016!

Can you reveal us your future collaborations?

They are with Nitro Fun, DatPhoria, BLVK SHEEP, & Maliboux.

Do you always work in a professional recording studio or do you also produce at home or in the hotel rooms with a laptop and headphones?

Sometimes when we are so inspired we tend work everywhere and even big studios, but most of the time we make all my records in my room with my laptop and headphones.

How and when did you start producing and djing?

We started making music with Fl Studio long time ago! We would say its been like 7 years already but we moved from FL Studio to Ableton Live around 6 years ago. Djing we barely started a couple of months since we have been doing show now and then.

What are the main things you’d say you’ve learned being in the game over the years?

We would say we have learned a lot of things from friends mainly and record labels! Not too long ago that we learned how to mix my music properly and thats because of Play Me Records who sent us a file for pre-mixed instructions asking for -6DB tracks! haha and also one of our biggest skills that we have learned this past 5 months is FM8, a wonderful plugin by Native Instruments.

What’s the latest trend in Bass music that you’ve noticed taking shape?

We would say the Future House style, it’s been going on for a few and it’s rising like a rocket! Cant wait to try something like this!

What is your advice / your tips for young dj/producers that want to start a career in the Bass music scene?

My biggest advice is to make music everyday, experiment with different tools, drums, samples, etc. If you want to succeed as hard as you want to breath, then thats when you will succeed!

What are your future projects? And.. Are you going to play in Europe? We can’t wait to welcome you!

Our future projects contain a lot of dubstep and a mixture of trap! We have been really fan of the hard sounds and heavy drops for a long time! Hopefully we get the chance to travel to Europe.. Cant wait to kick it with yall!!

Episode #3 by Rossella Blinded

ENG/

So, this episode has been something special too!
An interview with Bad Royale and 2 guest mixes.
Moreover, I’ve accompanied the interview with a mix I’ve made with Bad Royale’s most popular tracks, including the collab with Diplo on the Look At My Dab remix, to help you get a little bit more familiar with this name which I’m sure you will hear much about in the coming months!
They have performed at Control LA at Hollywood Avalon two fridays ago, and any word to describe their show wouldn’t do them justice. I’ve posted some videos on my Instagram (@rossellablinded).

I also went to see Slander at Yost Theatre for Havoc.
When they touched down in Italy a few months back, I had the impression not many people knew them and they were a rather new project, whereas here I got the totally opposite impression. The event was one of the most sold out ones of recent times and their dj set was sensational. I strongly recommed you check their soundcloud out!

In this episode I’ve also had the pleasure of including two guest mixes. First up Tony Goods, dj and producer from Seattle whose music ranges from rnb to trap, from hip hop to basslines. He’s opened gigs for names like Baauer, Kaytranada, Just Blaze, RL Grime, Araabmuzik, Rusko, Brenmar, Addison Groove or Reid Speed, and his tracks have hit the airplay on radios such as BCC 1Xtra, Rinse.FM, KEXP 90.3 FM.

The second guest mix, still focused on american bass music, is by a name that’s quite popular in my homecountry. I am talking about The Lumberjack. His first remix of Gabriel – “Lamb” has been shared by international blogs, as well as “Warloc” which has been released by Most Addictive Records and supported by American Colossus Edm.com.

Welcome to Bass Coast (literally)!

Episode #2 by Rossella Blinded

ENG/

This Bass Coast episode hosts for the first time two interviews recorded by myself in LA, and the guests are Stooki Sound e Yultron. Both of them played at Big Blog Party at the Yost Theatre last week (Nov 25th), where we recorded the interviews. But that’s not all! Yultron has given us an exclusive premieres to play: his VIP mix of Get on Up for Jauz and Pegboard Nerds.

I have to say that only a few time I’ve had the chance to attend parties of such dimensions: 3 stages, more than 20 artists playing in a unique atmosphere. In the US it is “normal” to have such big parties, with big names playing one-after-the-other…quite different than what we are used to in Italy!
The event was practically sold out and it was organized by White Rabbit Group, one of the most important organizations in the LA area. Oh, did I mention also 12th Planet (with the whole Smog Records crew), UZ, Ookay, Ape Drums, Dubloadz, Athletixx and (surprise!) Getter and ETC! ETC! played at the venue!? I’ve had the chance to listen closely to most of the dj sets throughout the night and i can tell you that the American audience is incredibly warm, have a look at the video I’ve upload on my instagram profile.

I also attented other events, one of which was Control LA at Avalon Hollywood with Mayhem & Antiserum, Apashe, and Thugli. All shows were incredible, especially for the visual and for the stage effects. Avalon Hollywood is a historical venue of Los Angeles, but at the same time it is avantgarde. This event too was organized by White Rabbit Group with the collaboration of Giant and Whitelite Production.
Apashe amazed me with his energy in a Dubstep/Trap -Epic dj set; Mayhem & Antiserum dropped all their smashing hits and they attracted everyone to the dancefloor like magnets and in the middle of their djset Boombox Cartel magically appeared; Thugli closed the party with a Hip-Hop & Trap dj set, more old school than the others, yet fascinating.

Another cool event I went to was Sound Nightclub with Zeds Dead. The event hosted Astronomar and Lee Wells, and all the dj sets were mainly Bass House. Even Zeds Dead have imprinted most of their set onto this genre but obvioulsy their smashing hits weren’t missing and they “spoilt” us with not-less-than 20 mins set of pure Dubstep. Total love!

I will host another episode of Bass Coast before Xmas break, on Dec 16th at 8 pm (Italy Time / 11 am LA time) which will include an exclusive interview with Bad Royale who is going to play on Friday Dec 4th at Control LA at Avalon Hollywood.

I really want to thank White Rabbit Group, Rubix ManagementTrasparent Agency, Giant and Avalon Hollywood for making this episode possible.

You can find the podcast link below with the tracklist. I added a lot of new tracks and a 15 min mix by myself with the most famous Stooki Sound tracks and other 15min mix featured Yultron’s new unreleased track and some recent ones. You can’t miss out on this one!!

ITA/
